We are delighted to offer some exciting new classes in 2020 from our brand new studio in Farnley near Otley, West Yorkshire. Our friendly workshops and classes cover a range of sewing, patchwork and quilting techniques and projects for both the beginner and intermediate levels. Beginners' Classes                                                         Click to enquire
These classes will introduce to you lots of different patchwork techniques and get you started on a beginner’s sampler quilt or table runner. It is suitable for beginners with little or no experience. You can expect to learn how to make blocks such as Log Cabin, Courthouse Steps, Shoo Fly, Sawtooth Star, Rail Fence and Crazy Patch. We will use the Quilt-As-You-Go method to quilt each block so that when you join it all together it is already quilted. Learn lots of little tips and tricks along the way to make your stitching the best it can be. Sewing machines can be provided.

Our regular studio based classes on Wednesdays and Thursday cater for those who have some experience of patchwork and quilting and wish to develop their techniques. They are based at our new studio in Farnley, near Otley and dates are as follows for 2020:

Sew Slow!                                                              Click to enquire
Come and discover the delights of mindful hand-stitching!
A course of seven, 2 hour sessions to introduce a variety of handstitching techniques including traditional embroidery, English paper piecing, Kantha, and Sashiko. Relax over a cuppa and enjoy stitching a beautiful set of coasters or small pictures. Suitable for beginners or improvers in hand-stitching.

When:                         Wednesdays 1.15pm to 3.15pm
Dates                          January 15, 29; February 12, 26; March 11, 25; April 8.
Cost:                            £95
Level:                          Beginners or Improvers - the activities will be tailored to suit your skill level

Quilting Workshop                                                  Click to enquire
A two-part quilting workshop to explore different quilting techniques. 
A course of two, all-day sessions to introduce a variety of quilting techniques including free-motion, using templates, stencils, walking foot, decorative stitches and twin needle quilting. Learn how to mark your quilting patterns and how the Quilt-as-you-go method works. Suitable for those with some patchwork / machine sewing experience.

When:                         Saturdays 10.00 am to 3.00pm 
Dates                          January 25th and February 1st
Cost:                            £65
Level:                          Improvers - some patchwork / machine sewing experience
Included:                     Tuition, printed handouts, hot drinks and refreshments
You need to bring:       A selection of 12 inch quilt sandwiches (three layers, cotton fabric for the top and bottom layers
                                    and wadding in the middle. Threads, including variegated. Quilting gloves if you like them.
                                    Safety pins. Packed lunch. Sewing machine (or hire one of ours).

A one-day workshop to make a handy mat for your sewing machine to sit on.
These cheerful sewing machine mats have plenty of pockets to keep all your sewing notions to hand and help to soften vibrations from your machine. Suitable for those with some experience of machine sewing.

When:                         Tuesday 11th February 10.00 am to 3.30pm

Escape the weekend chores and head to our friendly, relaxing workshop space for an indulgent day of sewing!
Bring your own project or work on one of our unique Quilting Smiles patterns and enjoy a day of dedicated sewing in our fully equipped studio, knowing that help is on hand should you need it. Book on as many as you like! Suitable for beginners.

Pincushion Cottage Workshop                                Click to enquire
Make a cute pincushion cottage – lots of fun!
A full day’s workshop to make an individually decorated, little cottage in which to keep your pins, needles and a small pair of scissors. Enjoy choosing decorations to make your pincushion totally unique! Suitable for those with some experience of machine sewing.

Sewing Roll Workshop                                            Click to enquire
A two-day workshop to make a personalized roll-up sewing case, in which to keep all your sewing notions – a great way to transport the essentials to class.
The quilted outer of the case is decorated with bonded appliqué letters spelling your name or initials and sewing notions and the inner has pockets for scissors, marking pens, tweezers, threads, needles, pins etc. Suitable for those with some experience of machine sewing.

Start your patchwork journey here! If you have ever wondered about trying patchwork – now’s your chance!
A course of three Tuesday morning workshops to get you started on patchwork with a cheerful, appliquéd and quilted cushion cover. Learn to use a rotary cutter, sew quarter inch seams, appliqué a motif, join squares, quilt the background and then make your panel into a cushion cover. Suitable for beginners.

Stitched Landscape Workshop                               Click to enquire

A two-day workshop to make a stitched picture using your favourite landscape photograph, using appliqué and thread-painting techniques.
Learn how to transfer your photo to fabric, pick out the main features, match different fabrics to the colours in the picture, machine appliqué, thread paint with a darning foot and then handstitch highlights to create a lasting memento of your favourite place.  Suitable for those with some experience of machine sewing.

Easter Table Runner/Wallhanging                            Click to enquire

one-day workshop to make a cheery Easter Bunny panel that would make a lovely table runner or wall hanging.
Dig out your pretty pastel fabrics, fancy ribbons and ricrac and bring them along to make a pieced and appliquéd panel, featuring a cheeky bunny and some jazzy Easter eggs. Suitable for those with some experience of machine sewing.

Fabrications!                                                                   Click to enquire
Our exciting course looking at creative stitch and experimental textiles continues in 2020. Unleash your creativity using paper, yarn and cloth. We will explore the design elements of line, shape, pattern, colour and texture. We will experiment with surface embellishment and design and stitch wonderful, unique pieces. Our work will culminate in an exhibition on 27th June 2020 to showcase your talents! Full instructions and details of what to bring will be provided when booking. Limited places.
